In this parable, Jesus teaches his followers that His return will be like a master who entrusts servants with his resources before going away on a long journey. When he returns, the servants who use his resources wisely are commended, and the servant who does not is cast out. Jesus' exhortation is to be ready for His return by using all the resources one has been given for kingdom purposes. The wicked servant is a cautionary tale for those who choose to use this life to build their own kingdoms; Jesus implies that those individuals ought not to expect to have any part in his future kingdom.
